It starts out with plants.
As he was the creator of plants and claimed them to be better than humankind or animal kingdom his mother and father El and Asherah had created.
By proving it, he decided to break the bones of the beast; they would eat the flesh thereof and find way to restore the bones their natural state. He broke them, shredded them and crunched them in ways irreparable.
As he was working with the trees he would cut them down and wait for them to regrow in having to wait seasons or even years.
At times when they would fall on their own he would notice God tearing down the tree and giving him a mission for that specific tree. The point is he eventually finds a root sticking out of the ground that looks like the hoof of a goat. From there he grabs hold of the root noticing it's brittleness. There he had the idea to use plant matter to form new creatures and use them to discover the creatures of old lost within the stomach of the earth. To recreate life from a place of plant instead of meat.
